Kwantlen First Nations Collaborate with Tech Company and University to Tell Its Story

Press Release – New technology will make learning about Kwantlen’s history an interactive experience

March 11, 2015, FORT LANGLEY, BCSeyem’ Qwantlen Business Group (SQBG) has partnered with edutainment tech company QuestUpon, to create a variety of historical ‘Quests’ to learn about the Kwantlen First Nation and their traditional territory.

SQBG is also collaborating with Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) on this project. Anthropology students will be responsible for researching and delivering much of the historical content that will drive the course of the quests that will be created. SQBG is pleased to continue its tradition of collaboration with KPU; this latest project affords the student a learning opportunity while also ensuring the Quests to be created in QuestUpon uphold academic integrity by incorporating historic and contemporary data.

“This is a wonderful and significant project to build lasting partnerships and to share our rich legacy and history as Kwantlen people in a new way”, says SQBG President and Kwantlen Councillor Tumia Knott. “We are currently working on some publications to share information about Kwantlen with a broader audience and are very excited by the accessibility of the QuestUpon App as a fun and engaging learning tool.”

The QuestUpon app utilizes leading edge technology to deliver an immersive experience; think of it as a walking tour guided by your smartphone. “The Quests to be created will have participants visiting various sites of significance to the Kwantlen people while learning about their rich history and culture in a fun, interactive way; geocaching, travelling back in time, answering trivia, seeing things in 3D augmented reality, and more!” says Miles Marziani, CEO and Founder of tech companies, QuestUpon and PlayMobility.

The anthropology students have already started curating the data, and the project will be well underway by summer. The release date of the Kwantlen Quests will be announced at a later date.
